I travel a lot, especially for someone my age. My last big trip was to Japan, which was absolutely amazing, a singular opportunity. There is little in life (for me) that is more stimulating, more invigorating, than going somewhere completely new. It gives you an appreciation for where you are, but more than that, it gives you appreciation for where you've been, your past. The things that you love at home become all the more important, and you feel less irritated by the little things that grind against you in your daily life. When you go far away, part of the thrill is coming home with a new vision of your old life. Perception is a huuuge part of one's satisfaction, I believe.
Sometimes, though, the need to get away drives me to somewhere more familiar; my Eden, maybe. The warm sun, and the fluid sand, and the sound of the ocean. The music, and the vibrant rhythm of life, and the friendly people. These are the things I need right now, not the thrill of discovery, or the fire of exploration. I can't wait to drag myself out of bed early in the morning to go outside and settle on the cool sand in the early, brilliant sun. I can't wait to hear the heavy beat of music as the first cars drive by, taking their drivers to points unknown. I imagine the flavour of the coffee, bitter with just a hint of sweetness, waking me to the beauty that will be another day in paradise. The speed of life seems somehow slower here, somehow more intent. Rejuvenation at its best.
