A good cause in tough times

I know that times are tough, and for a lot of us, philanthropy is just not something we can really think about right now, money as tight as it is, and jobs as scarce as they are. But every once in awhile, something comes around that is really, REALLY worth any tiny effort that we can make.

My friend Jodi and her boyfriend Matt are both starting grad school in the fall at the University of Buffalo. Most people, faced with such a tough, long road, would spend the summer blowing off as much steam as possible, and completely shirking as much responsibility as they could. Not these two, though... These two have decided to take 2 months and go to Nicaragua to teach English to children in hopes of giving them a fair chance at a good job later in life. The school is a very new program, and a mutual friend of ours has been heavily involved in its building. In fact, she is currently the ONLY teacher there. So Jodi and Matt's contribution, needless to say, is absolutely crucial.

The link in this post will take you to their blog, which will chronicle their summer. At least read it, it is a truly inspiring story. If you have anything to spare, please consider donating. They have a PayPal account so you can donate right on the blog.
